Dr (Mrs) Funmi Babington-Ashaye is the esteemed Managing Consultant of Risk Analyst Consultants (UK) Limited, with an illustrious career in the insurance industry spanning over three and a half decades. She has held prominent positions as the former Managing Director/Chief Executive of Cornerstone Insurance Plc and NICON Insurance Plc.
Babington-Ashaye holds prestigious qualifications including an Alumnus status from Lagos Business School and Fellowships from the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria and the United Kingdom, as well as the Chartered Institute of Insurance Brokers and the Institute of Directors Nigeria. She also possesses a Masters in Entrepreneurship from the renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the United States.
In 2017, Babington-Ashaye assumed the role of President/Chairman of the Council of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria, reinforcing her status as a leading figure in the Nigerian insurance sector. She serves on the council of various professional bodies, including the Institute of Directors Nigeria. Her outstanding contributions have earned her several accolades, such as the Top 50 Women in Insurance in Africa Award by the African Insurance Organisation.
Babington-Ashaye holds the distinction of being a Doctoral Fellow of the International Certified Risk Management Professionals United Kingdom, and she has been bestowed an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership & Community Development from the esteemed ESAE Benin University. Babington-Ashaye partnering with Chartered Insurance Institute London has also organized trainings on Insurance Leadership programme, Oil & Gas/Energy Insurance Course, Marine and Aviation Risk Summit both in London and Nigeria.
As the Managing Consultant of Risk Analyst Consultants (UK) Limited, Babington-Ashaye plays a pivotal role in charting the company’s strategic course. She oversees stakeholder relationships and is responsible for guiding technical and marketing strategies, as well as relationship management. Additionally, she has authored a book titled “Insurance in Practice – All You Need to Know about Insurance in Nigeria,” published in 2017.
As a goodwill ambassador of CII London, her goal is to provide training and exposure to help individuals become highly sought-after professionals. She is particularly focused on the training and development of young professionals in the industry.
